Surviving Quarentine

If you’re like me, then staying home 24/7 can be extremely difficult. I’m someone who likes to be constantly on the move because I can’t seem to sit still for longer than an hour. Sitting still also means dwelling on my thoughts which I try to avoid doing. However, I’ve found that some things have worked for me and I wanted to share them with you all 🙂

Podcasts:

I honestly didn’t think that I would like podcasts because I am more of a visual person and it’s hard to keep my attention. However, I have found some really awesome podcasts that have become my new obsession.

  • Cult Liter with Spencer Henry
    • This is my ABSOLUTE favorite podcast. I found Spencer through Glam&Gore on YouTube and was so excited when he created his podcast. Cult Liter is about cults, serial killers, and just some serious wackos. He covers Jeffery Dahmer, Zodiac Killer, Heaven’s Gate, and so much more! If you love true crime, definitely check it out on iTunes and Spotify.
  • Supernatural with Ashley Flowers
    • This podcast covers some spooky stuff but it’s so intriguing. Ashley covers some of the most weird, confusing, and unexplainable stories. If you’re into conspiracy theories, then I would highly recommend this podcast!
  • Crime Junkie
    • Ashley Flowers is also part of Crime Junkie and this podcast is based on True Crime. I recently started listening to this one but I’m really enjoying it so far! Definitely gives you that true crime fix.
  • The Art Of Being SEEN
    • Sharon Stays Sharing is the kindest and most open person I have met. She is such a beautiful soul and I’m so glad that I was able to connect with her. She is just starting out her podcast but she’s so honest and open about her journey of self-discovery and self-love. I highly recommend it.

Movies and TV Shows:

I am extremely picky when it comes to movies and TV shows because I get bored so easily. I have to have something that will hold my attention and keep me interested. Most of these will probably be spooky or weird.

  • Moulin Rouge
    • This move is set in Paris 1899 when a young English writer falls in love with CanCan dancer Satine. However, Satine is promised to a wealthy Duke in return for the funding of his production. The lovers have to conduct their affair under the Duke’s nose.
      • I always like to point out that this movie isn’t the very best. It’s different and kind of weird but that’s why I love it. It’s also a musical so I wouldn’t watch it if you aren’t into musicals (I compare to the quality of Sweeney Todd).

Okay, most of these are going to be TV shows because I never watch movies.

  • The Umbrella Academy
    • My FAVORITE series!!! It’s so good. It was written by Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance. Robert Sheehan, Ellen Page, Mary J. Blige, and Aidan Gallgher all star in it as well. Seriously such a good show and I can’t wait for season 2!
  • American Horror Story
    • Definitely not for the faint of heart. It’s such a weird and creepy series that I absolutely love. Some seasons are pretty intense so be cautious.
  • Wynonna Earp
    • Another amazing series! Who doesn’t love a badass female lead and some LGBTQ+ representation??
  • Sherlock
    • A BBC show that I absolutely love! Such a good series and I was so sad when it ended. Benedict Cumberbatch does an amazing job as Sherlock Holmes. I am also a strong rooter for Moriarty (oops?).
  • The Office/Parks and Rec
    • I mean, come on. These are classics!
  • One Day At A Time
  • Queer Eye
  • Everything Sucks!
  • Steven Universe
  • She-Ra and the Princess of Power

Okay, okay. I’ll stop there or else I’ll go on forever.

Books:

  • The Giver by Lois Lowry
  • Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
  • It’s Kind Of A Funny Story by Ned Vizzini
  • Simon Vs. The Homosapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
  • Aphrodite Made Me Do It by Trista Mateer
  • It’s A Lonely Love by Hunter Summerall

**I signed up for Book of the Month and I’m super excited to get my first book. Basically they give you a selection of books to choose for each month and you pick and read!

Activities:

I have also enjoyed doing other activities that require much more mental activity instead of just kind of tuning out.

  • Painting
  • Yoga
  • Writing
  • Makeup
  • Cleaning and Decluttering
  • Knocking out my homework that I had been putting off
  • Coming up with ways to better myself and work toward my goals
    • For me, this meant learning how to budget and getting a game plan for saving and moving out on my own again.
  • Animal Crossing for the Nintendo Switch

There are so many things that you can do to survive this quarantine. Do what makes you feel the best and don’t let anyone tell you that you are doing it wrong. Stay safe, stay healthy, stay happy!
